Sometimes a hotel is overlooked because you simply don’t know about it, or you think it’s too far outside the city centre. Sometimes though, it’s worth looking around a little. I did this recently, and discovered an amazing spa hotel just outside of Utrecht in the Netherlands. This hotel is the Hilton Royal Parc Soestduinen.
The hotel is situated roughly mid-way between Amersfoort and Utrecht, just off the A28, about 60 kilometres from Schiphol Airport. The location is really amazing, especially for the Netherlands. It is in a very secluded wooded area overlooking a really nice golf course. The closest train stations are in Den Dolder or Amersfoort, so you will need a car or a taxi to get here. The destination is definitely worth it though!
Why should I stay there?
Why did I pick this hotel? Because it really is one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in while in the Netherlands.
First there’s value for money, the room rate is really very good, especially if you book a little in advance. HRS has some excellent hot deals on this hotel. Then there is the location and services at this hotel. You have the golf course, the spas, the scenery, and the peace and quiet. It’s a totally relaxing place to spend a weekend or even a midweek break.
Start with the rooms. All too often a hotel room feels like a closet space. Well the Hilton Royal Parc has very large rooms, even for the singles. Each room is at least 34 square metres, some with balconies overlooking the golf course, and others look out on the wooded area that surrounds the hotel. The floor to ceiling windows leave nothing to block your views. Comfort and convenience is definitely what they were thinking about when they designed the rooms.
Of course when you stay in a hotel, you probably would want something to do during the day. The Hilton Royal Parc has a very well equipped gym, and a very nice swimming pool with a sauna and a steam room. Combine that with some really awesome staff and you have what will probably be one of my favourite hotels in the Netherlands for quite some time to come. Will I see you there too?
